Prominent Researchers from MGIT Engage in Collaborative Meetings at DMRL

In a recent collaborative endeavor, Dr. M.P. Phaniraj, the Director of RDC at MGIT, and Dr. Y. Pardhu from the P&C department conducted a series of research meetings with the leading scientists at the Defense Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL).

  1. Advanced Melting Technology Group: Dr. Shivkumar Khaple and Dr. Shanker of the Advanced Melting Technology Group delved into a discussion regarding the paper titled, “Mechanical Behavior of Iron aluminides: a comparison of nanoindentation, compression & bending of micropillars” which was published in Materials Science & Engineering A 65 (2016) 370-376. A proposal was made to undertake a similar study for Fe-Al alloys fabricated at DMRL. Dr. Khaple expressed agreement and proposed the study be centered on three alloy compositions: one within the disordered region, one in the ordered region, and another that sits between the two.
  2. Group Head, RCMA: A collaborative pathway was outlined with Dr. Anant Sagar and Dr. Sai Krishna. Dr. Sagar enthusiastically suggested leveraging a state-of-the-art Nanoindentor capable of high strain rate testing, accessible via his contacts at DMRL. Additionally, Dr. Sagar proposed working on the Ti-Al system, which he possesses, with the possibility of converting it into a research paper. This data will be provided to Prof. Pardhu, a former colleague of Dr. Sagar during their PhD tenure.
  3. Rolling & Forging Group: Dr. Chandan Mondal, the Group Head of the Rolling & Forging group, unfortunately, had to depart early owing to health concerns. However, he committed to delivering the remaining two compositions of Al-Mg alloys. He located samples for one composition within the lab and ensured the creation and delivery of the other alloy within the next two to three weeks.

These collaborative efforts reinforce MGIT’s commitment to advancing metallurgical research in partnership with renowned institutions such as DMRL.
